I've been working on some new felt mandalas recently, and it occurred to me that the back is often quite interesting too, but since the finished product is backed with a second piece of felt, no one else ever gets to see it. So I thought I'd share my latest mandala in progress, and show a little secret peek at what's on the other side.
So here's the latest felt mandala I'm working on, which was inspired by a sunny blue sky day, which has been a rarity this June in Maine:

I'm so excited that little g's hair is finally long enough for pigtails! And of course I'm a bit biased, being her mom and all, but doesn't she look adorable in them?!? Each day when I ask her if she wants her hair in tails, I'm hoping she'll say yes, because they look so darn cute on her.
I thought I'd celebrate the pigtails by showing off some super duper cute ways to dress them up.

...half over already? Really?? How did this happen? I'm not sure where the time went, but if you see it, let it know I'm looking for it, ok?
Maybe I should just get one of these pretend watches. Then at least I wouldn't see the time flying by. I could just blissfully glance at my watch, and it would always be 5 til 1:00.
I had a wonderful time at the show this weekend. It was a great space and a warm atmosphere with all of the friendly faces from the Etsy Maine Team. When I got there, the set up was a little different than I was thinking, so I had to rethink my display a little bit. There's definitely still room for improvement, but I was pretty pleased with how it turned out:
It was a great show to get my feet wet again. I've only done a handful of shows in the past, and haven't done any at all for a couple of years. Now I can't wait to find some more shows to do!

From the North:
Take I-95 to the Freeport/Durham Exit.
Turn Right at the end of the offramp on Mallett Drive.
At the end of Mallett, turn Right on Route 1 / Main Street.
Proceed down Main Street to the traffic lights (by the Public Safety building).
Turn left on West Street. Take the first Left on Depot Street.
The Freeport Community Center is on the Right.
From the South:Take I-95 to the Freeport/Desert Road Exit.
Turn Right at the end of the offramp on Route 1 / Main Street.
Go through 3 traffic lights.
At the 4th traffic light turn Right on West Street (by the Public Safety Building).

...can be so funny! As they are just learning to communicate, they do a lot of repeating of words they hear, and often will become particularly obsessed with a certain word or phrase. And sometimes they will say something that might be completely logical to them, but in reality it doesn't quite work that way. For instance, a couple months ago, my daughter was obsessed with the word broken. She would be especially concerned if any food was broken. One day she was eating a cracker, and when it broke, she was whining "it's broken, it's broken", which was to be expected. But then she said something else that kind of caught me by surprise - "Zip! Zip!". I wasn't quite sure how to explain to her that I couldn't "zip" the cracker back together again.
I love that I can now understand almost everything she says, and she's even starting to say complete sentences now, too. Some of the highlights from this past week were "A bird! Uh-oh, it flew away.", and one of my personal favorites "Grass! What is it doing?". She's been really interested in what people are doing, and will often ask "What's mommy doing?" or "What's daddy doing?", but when she asked what the grass was doing, and I had to try really hard to hold the laughter in.
And lastly, she has discovered the word "yet", but I'm not sure she really understands what it means, as she has just been tacking it on to the end of nearly every sentence. Last night I tried to give her a cracker, but she didn't want it, she responded with "I don't like it yet". I'm sure with time, she will learn the meanings of all these words and phrases, but in the meantime, watching her discover new words is most certainly a joy. So for now, I will continue to enjoy the innocense of a toddler discovering her voice and building her vocabulary, because I'm not ready for her to grow up and always speak properly....not yet.
If you've been following my blog, you know that I've been working on a big batch of mini felted flower goodies for the show I'm doing this coming weekend. You've seen them before they were felted, then as they were drying after the felting. That leaves one final step:
making them into hair accessories and rings! I just felted the bands for the rings, and those are still drying, but I made a bunch of the hair elastics and snap barrettes over the weekend. Here's a peek:
