Staying positive through the "no's" of toddlerhood

I think all parents will find that handling certain ages and stages of their children will come more naturally than others, and for me, toddlerhood is a difficult one. Having a toddler can be loads of fun, yes, but it can also be incredibly challenging. Some days we have great fun together, and some days don't quite go so smoothly, specially if either one of us is in a not so great mood.

Yesterday was one of those not so smooth days. The day seemed to be filled with no's, on both her part and mine. She spent much of the day getting into anything and everything, and doing things she knew she wasn't supposed to be doing, which was evident by that mischievous look in her eye. I felt like I was constantly telling her no. And then every time I asked her something, the answer would undoubtedly be a firm "No". Although, I did occasionally get a "No thank you".

You always hear people talk of "the terrible twos", and though my daughter is not yet two, I'm now starting to realize what they mean. With all this negativity, I was finding it hard to remain positive. It was a day I felt my parenting skills were not quite up to par, but alas, we parents are human, and some days we will not be the shining roll model we hope to be. I just had to keep reminding myself, that this difficult stage will pass, and maybe since she's entering "the terrible twos" a bit early, she'll leave it behind early too! Today is a new day, a chance to start fresh, and who knows, maybe it will be full of yeses!

Your approaching it the right way! Each day just start fresh. I have always worked full time, and Ive been through this with my 3 kids. I must say that the boys weren't as dramatic as Krystal was. Boys seem to be more simple and more easily distracted (LOL) but with Krystal I just chose my battles. Unfortunaly is a learn as you go process and is QUTIE trying on the nerves! I find an Ipod helps - LOL! (just block everything out) JK!
